Daily Drop Cap
Came across this little beaut of a site when supposedly searching for images for college on the history of European printing (yawn much). I will never get far with this level of dossing. But my eyes love a treat.
So.... dailydropcap.com, a drop cap a day by typographer and illustrator Jessica Hirsche. She lets you borrow away and use her work to put into your blog, etc. How nice.

Every day is art class
Just as I'd hoped! This week was spent making 3D models using a random selection of materials.

Crackin'
Just found this poster for a show posted on Betsy Walton's blog. I really like the illustration so it gets my vote. I'd like to have made it but alas I'm not that good :(

Miaou
There are few positives to working weekend nights, however tonight was one of those nights when working for the man paid off nicely. Tonight saw Odessa Club play host to legendary night Ballroom of Romance and featured 4 crackin' bands with headliners Japanese foursome Miaou. Their music was described by a fellow musician as 'melodic instrumentals' and melodic it was...and instrumental...and fantastic. With my current penchant for swelling lyric-less numbers (I have Godspeed you! Black emperor's Lift your skinny fists... on constant repeat) Miaou were just the ticket! An uplifting gift for the ears on a dreary ould friday in work.
Their dedication is second to none: one of the bandmembers arrived in Dublin at 5pm this evening and flies back to Tokyo on Sunday, quite the trip for a 60-odd hour stay. They play the Oscillate festival in Belfast this weekend. Look them up cos they're so deadly i nearly wept...kindof.

Coming to a theatre near you....
Sin Nombre
Dir:Cary Fukunaga
Broken Embraces
Dir: Pedro Almodovar
Two beauts of movies in my mother tongue....well the subtitles will be. Sin Nombre won the award for Directing and Excellence in Cinematography at this year's Sundance Festival and is executive produced by Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna for Canana their production outfit designed to foster emerging Mexican talent and films dealing with Latin American issues. I've got my tickets booked for Sunday in the Lighthouse as a reward for making it through yet another weekend in work. I remember Fri and Sat freedom with fondness, sigh.
I read a really positive review of Broken Embraces in The Sunday Times Culture magazine. It was part of an interview with Almodovar where the word 'genius' was bandied about like nobody's business. But then someone told me they read a bad review and a tizzy ensued. I'm going to favour the good review. Vive el Pedro.

...at Coin de Mire downstairs in the Moore Street plaza. Roti avec legumes ou viande for €2.50. I'm a fully fledged Indian now...blogging about food....but Ganesha, it's delicious! Where else can you get lunch for way less than a fiver? Grab a samosa while yer at it. I'm starving...

Gaetan Billault
Gaetan has some new stuff up on his webpage and I'm blatantly blogging about it to make my page look good (but also to point out that he's one of the guest speakers at this month's Sweettalk on May 28th so go and applaud loudly and in a french accent- why not)
See the whole lot at http://g.billault.free.fr/
Shockingly good.... :)
